ELOISE: PIECES INSPIRED BY GAUDÍ’S CERAMIC MOSAICS

The trencadis ceramic mosaic technique is central to the appreciation of a significant part Gaudí’s work, which he used for the first time for the entrance to the Güell estate in Barcelona, the sinuous architecture of which called for the use of broken tiles as whole tiles would have proved impossible. More than 100 years have gone by since then and Gaudí’s mosaics still have the power to amaze and inspire us. The new Eloise jewellery collection pays tribute to the great man.

Trencadis involves covering surfaces with ceramic shards set into cement. Stunning visual effects can be achieved in terms of both colour and form by breaking up tiles which feature their own individual decoration and reassembling the pieces into a new composition.

Joid’art has taken this technique and given it a contemporary twist, using, in place of ceramics, fire enamel in a variety of shades of blue. The result is the striking new Eloise jewellery collection, which creates tiny abstract mosaics set on matte silver discs.

Each is a piece of art that reflects a Mediterranean soul. To find out more about the range of necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets available, visit one of our Joid’art stores or head to joidart.com.
