The Moitie jewellery collection is new to Joid’art on two fronts. Firstly, as one of our new arrivals for SS17; and, secondly, as a collection that marks the Joid’art debut for its designer, Berta Riera. In her words, Moitie is ‘a tribute to the craftsmanship of mosaics’, in that its delicate pieces form compositions that are inspired by this ancient fragmentary art.
In Moitie, Berta Riera reflects the Mediterranean tradition of the mosaic that was revived in our beloved Barcelona by artists such as Gaudí and Joan Miró, adding her own personal touch based on conceptual simplicity.
The pieces are made up of simple half-ovals joined almost randomly to form small structures that move independently with each gesture, a feature that is particularly evident in the collection’s necklaces, long earrings and spectacular articulated bracelet. All items are made of silver and are available in two enamel colour options: white and cherry red. The first finish is as ethereal and luminous as the soon to arrive days of sunshine; the second as intense and full of strength as the moments of joy in store for us all this spring and summer.
This is jewellery designer Berta Riera’s first collaboration with Joid’art, and we hope there will be many more to follow. Berta studied art, design and jewellery at the Escola Massana Art and Design Centre in Barcelona and the École Boulle art school in Paris. She has worked in a number of jewellery workshops, combining this with developing her own brand, with which she has participated internationally in exhibitions and trade fairs. She has also created fashion accessories for brands such as Massimo Dutti, Mango, Carolina Herrera, Uterqüe, Desigual and Pepe Jeans.
